SOLD#4019 Meissen Tea Cup and SaucerSOLD

SOLD  Hand Painted.  Multicolored dainty florals on cup and saucer.  Cobalt blue on white, with gold trim on both pieces.  No wear that i can see at all.  All edges of both pieces are scalloped.  The Meissen mark appears to be the one that Rontgen's Book of Meissen shows as being used 1951-53.  The blue dot at the foot ring of the saucer is indication of that.  Incised letters and numbers on the bottom are B154? (can't read last one).  Also has a gold 5 and a 24 or 29/160 in red.  Cup is 2 1/4 inches tall x 3 1/8 inches diameter.  Saucer is 5 inches diameter.  This set appears to be in perfect condition.SOLD

SOLD#4018 Meissen Tea Cup and SaucerSOLD

SOLD Hand Painted.  Multicolored dainty florals on cup, but not on saucer.  This is a mixed set, though it is still compatible and appears to match.  The only difference is the lack of florals on the saucer.  Heavy gold trim, with wear around the edges.   All edges of both pieces are scalloped.  Molds are ones designed 1853-55.  The Meissen mark with the pommels at the bottom appears to be the one that Rontgen's Book of Meissen shows as being used from 1850 until 1924.  Incised letters and numbers on bottom are Y33b and 27.  Also had a gold 12 and a blue 43 at the foot ring of the saucer.  I won't attempt to interpret those markings for fear of being incorrect.  I don't claim this to be any older than 1924, but do believe it is at least that old.  Footed cup is 2 inches tall x 3 inches diameter across top.  Saucer is 4 3/4 inches diameter.  Excellent condition other than wear on the gold.  Have priced it accordingly.SOLD

SOLD#4017 Meissen Tea Cup and SaucerSOLD

SOLDHand Painted.  Multicolored dainty florals. Incised letters and numbers on bottom are B154b and a 69.  A gold 18 is just below the mark.  The tiny blue mark at the foot ring of the saucer looks like a P.  I won't attempt to interpret those markings for fear of being incorrect.  I don't claim this to be any older than 1924, but do believe it is at least that old.  Footed cup is 2 inches tall x 3 inches diameter across top.  Saucer is 4 7/8 inches diameter.  Excellent condition other than wear on the gold.  Have priced it accordingly.

SOLD#2360 Meissen Tea or Coffee Set and Hand Painted TraySOLD

SOLD Gorgeous set!!  Heavy Gold Decoration!! Teapot, sugar, creamer, 6 sets cups and saucers, and tray.   This exact body style is one that was designed in the 1853-55 era according to a popular book on Meissen and was apparently used many times down through the years of production by the Meissen factory.  From the assortment of marks on the pieces and from extensive research, we have concluded that this set was most likely whiteware made in the era of 1924-1934 (known as the dot period) and then possibly stored away at the Meissen factory until c.mid-20th Century (1950's) at which time it was probably retrieved from storage and decorated (read more about this at the end of this listing).  We believe the tray to also be from the early to mid-20th century and not originally a part of this set but one that was matched up with the tea set at some point.  It is a beautiful match, and we are offering it as a set, just the way we found it at a high-end estate sale in Dallas.  It is not perfect, although it appears to be when viewed as a beautiful display set.  Upon close scrutiny, there is some slight wear of the gold on one side of the rim of the teapot lid and also on a portion of the rim on the neck of the sugar bowl (see pictures) (both of these pieces can be displayed with those sides to the back).  Although not visible, the finial of the sugar bowl lid has been professionally repaired.  The underside rim of the tea pot lid has been unprofessionally repaired by someone (see picture), but is only visible when the lid is removed from the teapot.  Other than the above notations, the set is in beautiful condition.  We have priced it accordingly and have found similar sets elsewhere priced in the $3,000 to $4,000 range.  The teapot is 5 3/4" tall to edge of neck.  The cups are 2 1/16" tall x 3" across tops.  The saucers are 5" diameter.  The sugar bowl is 2 7/8" tall and the creamer 4 1/4" tall.  The gorgeous tray is 16 1/2" wide at the handles.   This is a great set for the money.

The marks we have shown here are samplings from the tea set pieces.  Most of the crossed swords have two incised vertical lines across the middle.  According to references, this is possibly an indication that the pieces of this tea set were considered to be seconds by the Meissen factory at the time of manufacture in 1924-34Also according to references, such pieces were usually stored away in the Meissen factory as undecorated whiteware, sometimes for many years, and occasionally retrieved and upgraded with decoration.  We think this is what happened with this tea set.  Other marks on these pieces which are difficult to photograph are a blue v, blue 39, blue 37, blue 35 or 36, blue 61, a gold n, gold 375/29 and 375/26; impressed and incised numbers and letters such as B154, F154, 77, F, C145, C146, 744 with a symbol preceding it, a 33 followed by a small square, an incised line in the shape of a half-circle, etc.  The mark for the gorgeous hand painted tray is shown below.  The tray is in absolutely beautiful condition.  We find nothing wrong with it.  Please e-mail if you wish additional information or can add information for us.
