#2745 Love Story Windsor Bone China English Coffee Set

Made in Longton, Staffordshire, England, by the Co-operative Wholesale Society, Ltd, at Windsor Pottery, in business 1946-1964.  This mark was used beginning in the 1950's. (Sources:  Kovel's, page 120; Directory of European Porcelain, pages 239-240; and this website:  http://www.thepotteries.org/allpotters/300.htm Coffee Pot is 6" tall to rim of neck; Creamer is 3 1/4" tall at spout; Sugar is 2 3/8" tall x 3 5/8" diameter across top; Demicups (6) are 2" all x 2 1/2" diameter across top; Saucers (6) are 4 3/4" diameter.  Notice the heavy gold trim and the footed design of all the pieces.  The romantic figural scenes are in transfer.  The set consists of Coffee Pot, Sugar and Creamer, and 6 cups and saucers.  The set appears to have never been used.  A real beauty!!!  Excellent condition.  SOLD  $225 April 2006

#2772 JKW Bavaria Dice Throwers Plate

A very popular scene of beggar children throwing dice.  This scene is in transfer and was reproduced by many manufacturers, including R. S. Prussia, after the original painting by Spanish artist Bartolome Esteban Murillo, 1618-1682. (Source:  R. S. Prussia Popular Lines, Mary Frank Gaston, page 22)  This particular plate is from Josef Kuba of Wiesau Bavaria, a porcelain factory and decorating studio.  The Western Germany part of the mark dates it no earlier than 1949 when Western Germany was formed just after World War II.  What is interesting is that this JKW mark was overstamped with a crown and shield and Hutchenreuther Tirschenreuther Germany.  There is yet a third mark -- Otco Bavaria Germany.  I have no explanation for this except to speculate that perhaps the blank plate was actually made by OTCO, then decorated by JKW, and finally distributed by Hutchenreuther????  The plate is absolutely beautiful with its gold trim on the deep blue background.  It is in excellent and beautiful condition.  10 1/4" diameter.   SOLD   $125, September 2005
