Old Japanese Blue Lustreware Breakfast Set

#3859 Old Japanese Lustreware Breakfast Set.  c.1921 or later.  Marked with the word Japan, so would be after the Old Nippon era ended in 1921.  It is still most likely from the decade of the 1920's.  Though marked, we haven't been able to find this exact cherry blossom mark, so the Japanese factory of origin is unknown at this writing.  Beautiful blue lavender lustreware.  Perfect as a breakfast set, luncheon set, or tea set.  Also perfect just for display.  Set consists of teapot, lidded sugar, creamer, 6 cups and saucers, and 6 snack plates.  Teapot is 4 3/4" tall to top of finial on lid x approximately 8" wide from outer tips of spout and handle.  Lidded Sugar bowl is 4 1/4" tall to top of finial on lid x approximately 6" wide from outer tips of handles; Creamer is 3" tall at highest point of spout x approximately 4 1/4" wide at outer tips of spout and handle; Cups are 2" tall x 3 3/4" diameter at top opening; Saucers are 5 1/2" diameter; Snack plates are 7 1/4" diameter.  Excellent condition.  SOLD  $200 July 2006

Pink Lustre Demicup

#2770 Pink Lustre Demicup and Saucer.  Unmarked except for a number, but most likely of German origin.  Applied gold decoration.  Slight wear of gold on center ring of saucer.  Gold on one area of cup rim of about 1/2" appears to be a touchup -- not readily noticeable.  A very nice little decorative cup and saucer and priced accordingly.  Saucer is 4 1/4" diameter.  Cup is 2 1/2" tall x 1 7/8" diameter across top opening.  SOLD  $35 July 2006

Old German Lustreware Cake Plate K. Steinmann of Silesia, Germany

#2622 Old Lustre Figural Cake Plate.  The mark is that of K. Steinmann of Tiefenfurth, Silesia, Germany, in business 1868-1938(Source:  Kovel's New Dictionary of Marks, by Ralph and Terry Kovel, page 97).  Where in those years this particular version of their mark falls is unclear.  This beautiful plate is in blended hues of ivory, green, pink, and blue/purple.  The mythological figural scene is in transfer.  NOT PERFECT, although it appears to be perfect except upon close examination.  There are some minor scratches in the center and slight wear of the color on each of the raised areas around the inner rim (see pictures).  It is priced accordingly.  The first picture at the top is showing some light glare.  It is 9 1/2" diameter at the inset handles.  SOLD  $50 December 2005

White Lustreware Cup and Saucer

#2511 White Lustre Footed Cup and Saucer, ROSES.  Unmarked.  Beautiful set decorated with colorful roses on elegant white lustre background.  Handle and all scalloped rims are trimmed in gold.  The cranberry borders on inside saucer rim and bottom edge of cup tie it all together.  It is a combination of hand painting and transfer.  Cup is 3" tall x 3 5/8" across to opening.  Saucer is 5 3/4" diameter.   SOLD  $55 in November 2005

Item #2511 $55  SOLD

Old Pink Lustre Cup and Saucer

#2332 Old Footed Pink and White Lustre Cup with Encrusted Flowers.  Cup and saucer were purchased at different times, but appear to be a good match.   Heavy gold on inside of bombe-shaped body.  Unmarked, but likely of German origin and possibly from one of the Schlegelmilch factories who produced the popular R. S. Prussia line of products.  One of the three little feet was chipped but has been professionally repaired.  It also has some loss of gold on the beaded trim on the back (see picture).  Otherwise, it is in excellent condition and no doubt VERY OLD.  It is a real beauty.  Saucer is 5 1/2" diameter.  Cup is 2 3/4" tall x 3 1/4" across top opening.  SOLD  8/26/05   $75

Old German Cup Encrusted Flowers Pink and Blue

#2334 Old Pink Lustre German Cup with Encrusted Flowers.  NOT PERFECT.  In the first picture below, the tip end of one of the blue flowers is missing; however, because of the encrusted nature of the flowers, it is not noticeable unless looking with an eagle eye.  The saucer has a spider crack that does show on both sides (see picture).  However, with the cup in place, it is hidden.  It is priced accordingly.  The cup is 3" tall x 3 1/4" diameter across the top opening.  The saucer is 6" diameter.  A very beautiful old set for any display of treasured items. SOLD

Old Pink Cup Gold Liner

#2333 Old Pink Lustre Footed Cup Gold Lined.  No Saucer.  Even without the saucer, this can stand on its own as a nice decorative cup.  The inside of the cup is entirely lined with gold.  Notice the beautiful body shape and the dainty feet -- another cup that was just too pretty to resist.  NOT PERFECT.  Slight wear of gold on the handle and top edge of rim.  It also had a hairline crack in the side which has been professionally repaired.  It is priced accordingly.  Unmarked, but likely of German origin.  3" tall x 3 1/2" diameter across top opening.  SOLD

Item #2333 SOLD SOLD

Lustreware English Teapot Royal Bradwell Astoria Arthur Wood

#2389 Green Lustre English Teapot.  The mark says Astoria Royal Bradwell.  It also says Arthur Wood on the banner across the globe (see picture below).  Although I haven't found this particular mark, I have found that Arthur Wood started business in 1904 and is apparently still in business today in Staffordshire, England.  (Source:  Kovel's New Dictionary of Marks, by Ralph and Terry Kovel, page 160)   I do believe this is a very early teapot.  It  is NOT PERFECT.  It has crazing which is clearly visible from the inside of the pot as well as the bottom side (see pictures).  The crazing is not readily visible from the outside except under close scrutiny.  The combination of the beautiful colors is very eye-catching.  The floral decorations are in transfer.  A beautiful display for any collection of teapots.  4" tall to top edge of neck x 10 1/4" wide from outer tips of spout and handle.  SOLD

Royal Vienna Portrait Plate Z S and Co Bavaria

#2343 Royal Vienna Red and Gold Lustre Portrait Plate.  The heavy gold and scarlet red lustre decoration, inset handles, and rich brown hand painted background showcase this beautiful portrait in transfer with hand painted touches -- so well done, it takes a magnifying glass to realize the portrait is in transfer.  The flowing gold lustre Art Nouveau style cartouche surrounding the portrait put the finishing touches on this plate.  All things considered, this plate is at the top of my list of gorgeous finds.  The Royal Vienna mark with a crown and beehive are in a pale black or gray color and appear to be over the glaze.  A similar crown mark is discussed on page 168 of the Fourth Series R. S. Prussia book by Gaston.  The other mark is that of Zeh, Scherzer & Co., of Rehau, Bavaria, Germany, and is shown in references as first used in c.1880.  It appears that this plate was manufactured by Z. S. & Co., and then decorated by Royal Vienna.  I have not been able to find this Royal Vienna mark in any of my many references (e-mail if you know).  This is definitely a very old plate (c. late 19th century) and has survived amazingly well, although not perfectly.  There is a chip on the underside of one handle (see picture).  The red lustre does have some slight wear (see pictures), as does the gold lustre rim and some of the brown background -- all as would be expected of normal wear and age.  All of this aside, the overall appearance of the plate is one of great beauty, and any flaws are only seen upon very close scrutiny.  A gorgeous decorative addition for any setting.  10 1/2" diameter at the handles.  SOLD

Old Victoria Austria Vase

#1979 Victoria Austria White Lustre Figural Vase.  Hand Painted figural scene and signed by what appears to be "Zatxka."   Body is in a beautiful pearlized white lustre finish.  Neck, handles, and bottom are all trimmed in gold.  There is expected wear here and there on the gold edges, but other than that is in excellent condition.  It measures 9 1/2" tall x 4 1/2" wide at widest part of body.  The books show this Victoria Austria mark to have been used between the years of 1883-1945.  SOLD

Austrian Figural Vase

#1980 Austrian Figural Vase.  Probably also Victoria, although we could not find this mark.  The beautiful figural scene appears to be a transfer with hand painted finishing.  Although still beautiful, this vase appears to have some very heavy wear on the gold trim.  It probably had a lot of gold on it at one time, with only traces remaining now.  Otherwise it is in excellent condition.  It measures 9 1/4" tall x 4 1/2" at the widest part of the body.  SOLD

Item #1980
